Three for the Weekend: Jazz, Post-folklore, Photo walk

For this weekend, we offer you a selection of October vibes -- from jazz to post-folklore, as well as discovering Rīga through the eyes of a photographer.

Copenhangen Jazz

Danish composer and saxophone virtuoso Lars Moller will perform with the Latvian Radio Big Band at Dzintari Concert Hall for the first time.

The concert program includes excerpts from Lars Moller's most ambitious work, ReWrite of Spring, in which a modern big band sound is given to Igor Stravinsky's compositional ideas. Alongside this, you will hear works that combine cultural influences from other nations, as well as highlights from different periods of the composer's oeuvre.

The concert takes place Friday, October 11, at 19:00. More on Dzintari Concert Hall's website.

Kaligo Post-folklore

The band Kaligo has welcomed its first harvest of songs, which includes eight original compositions and five arrangements of folk songs and storytellers' melodies. The concert on October 11 at 19:00 will feature a mix of power lyrics, Latvian songs, and world music influences from both Japan and the Middle East.

Kaligo is a post-folklore band established in 2023.

The concert takes place at Peltes, Sigulda, Institūta Street 6. More on the Facebook event.

Photo Walk: Āgenskalns

The art education platform ISSP is organizing a series of English-language events: photo walks around Rīga neighborhoods.

The first walk on Sunday, October 13, will be led by photographer Reinis Hofmanis, who will take different paths through Āgenskalns. The walk will begin at the Āgenskalns Market at 11:15.

The organizers ask that you have a camera or phone with you.

You must register in advance.
