The Law on Song and Dance Festivals stipulates that the Latvian School Youth Song and Dance Festival takes place every five years. The last time the festival was held in a traditional format was in 2015, while in 2020, due to the conditions of the Covid-19 pandemic and national restrictions, the festival was postponed and organized in a non-traditional format in 2021 at various venues in the municipalities.
