Three for the Weekend: Not just Rīga's birthday

This weekend there will be plenty to do in Rīga as the capital celebrates its 823rd birthday. However, if you want to go farther afield, here are some tips for your weekend cultural enjoyment.

Silent Disco at medieval castle

Modern music and historical atmosphere - this weekend, on August 17, the Cēsis Museum will host a Silent Disco, where three DJs will offer visitors three different music channels to suit all tastes.

A Silent Disco is an event where people dance to music in wireless headphones instead of speakers. The Cēsis Museum environment – a medieval castle – is an unprecedented venue in Latvia for this type of event.

The event takes place August 17, 20:00 to 0:00, Cēsis, Pils laukums 9. More on the Cēsis Castle website.

Night concert at rocket base

On Friday, August 16, the Youth Choir "Kamēr..." is offering its season finale at a rocket base in Jūrkalne.

The abandoned rocket base in Jūrkalne (Raķešnieki, Jūrkalne, Ventspils municipality), on the coast of the Baltic Sea, is emerging as a prominent concert venue, the youth choir says in a statement. Some seating will be available but visitors are invited to take chairs and throw blankets.

The concert begins at 21:00. More on the Facebook event.
