Three for the Weekend: Music, Art, Soccer

Take note – story published 1 year ago

Here are three more ideas to get you out and about this weekend.

Baltic Composers in Cēsis

"Baltic Music Days" have been taking place since 2021 and are organized by the Composers' Unions of the three Baltic countries. Every year the festival takes place in a different Baltic country. This year's event will take place from March 18 to 31 in Cēsis and Riga. Nine concerts are planned with Cēsis first to pick up the baton over the weekend with the premiere of Krists Auznieks' first symphony by the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, as well as a concert by the world-famous French percussion ensemble Les Percussions de Strasbourg. There will also be works from Estonian Erkki-Sven Tüür and Lithuanian Žiboklė Martinaitytė.

Forgettable Art in Rīga

March 17 sees the opening of a solo exhibition from artist Krista Dzudzilo titled "I remember everything and then I forget everything" which will run until May 7 at the Alma Gallery on Tērbatas street, Rīga. The exhibition consists of 11 drawings, a video work I see and a kinetic object.

"The past is a part of the present that is imprinted in experience like a line scratched into the surface of
paper, a captured memory of action. Remembering and forgetting can happen simultaneously. Back and
forth. How to discover the invisible and let it touch you with ears? How can you hear when you can only
see? Everything is partly not seeing, partly not understanding, partly seeing, partly understanding, partly
remembering and partly forgetting," says publicity material.

It should be a memorable exhibition, as long as you don't forget about it.

Soccer Season has kicked off

Snow may still be thick on the ground in some places, but that didn't stop the first round of matches in Latvia's senior men's soccer competition, the Virsliga, taking place last weekend. This week the second round of the competition will feature matches in Jelgava, Rīga, Valmiera and Salaspils. It's a fun and cheap way to watch top-flight football in a family-friendly atmosphere.
