This year, the torches carried by several thousand participants created a united path of light, illuminating the route from the Kārlis Ulmanis monument to the National Theatre.
Latvian Television: What does the torch walk mean for you?
Sanita: "It's a feeling of freedom. It's a celebration, a Latvian celebration."
Ilze: "It's probably a kind of ancestral remembrance. And the joy of being together."
Gustavs: "It symbolizes that you are a real Latvian. Belonging to Latvia."
Līga: "It's not the first time. It's like the 12th time. For me, it symbolizes unity, patriotism, and that feeling of togetherness."
Rihards: "Extra festive mood and atmosphere."
Toms: "Probably unity and patriotism. People participate a lot - big and small. Older people. So we feel united."
