Photos: Kuldīga marks its UNESCO achievement

Take note – story published 1 year and 2 months ago

Ringing the bells of all Kuldīga's churches, the United Nations flag was raised in Town Hall Square in the city on Thursday, September 21, which will now symbolize Kuldīga's affiliation with countries on the UNESCO World Heritage List and their unique values.

The flag was raised by chair of the Kuldīga municipality city council Inese Astaševska , surrounded by hundreds of residents gathered in Town Square.

In honor of the inclusion of the old city of Kuldiga in UNESCO, Kuldiga will be dressed in a special decorum – festive flags will be placed in an urban environment.

More than twenty years of preparation have ended: from 1997 onwards, Kuldīga has carried out targeted research, engaged the residents in the restoration process, and created the conditions for the inclusion of the old city of Kuldiga on the World Heritage List.
