Three for the Weekend: Jazz, Poetry, Plants

Some of you might already be getting your skis out. If you are not, here are some other things to do this weekend.

Poetry Slam Final

On November 22, at 19:00, Riga Latvian Society House (Merķeļa iela 13) will host the 2024 Grand Poetry Slam Finals or the 2nd Latvian National Poetry Slam Championships, in which 28 poets who have made it to one of this year's 11 Poetry Slam Finals in Latvia will take part.

The winner of the final will represent Latvia in the European Poetry Slammer Championship on December 12-14 in Slovakia.

Participant list and more about the slam here. Most of the poetry will likely be in Latvian, but there might be some in other languages as well.

AUGam Plant Food festival

On Sunday, November 24, 11:00-19:00, the tenth AUGam Festival will take place in the Angārs venue of the Tallinas Street Quarter, where you will have the opportunity to taste and buy a variety of plant-based dishes and take part in interesting discussions and masterclasses.

The event is organized by the AUGam association, bringing together 12 caterers and traders who will offer only plant-based dishes and products. Visitors will have the opportunity to taste pilaf, pretzels, burgers, sushi, ice cream, a special gluten-free offer, and other delicacies. Alongside the market, there will be educational lectures, discussions, cooking workshops, a painting exhibition and raffles throughout the day with the chance to win tasty prizes.

American Jazz Evening

On November 22, 19:00, Latvian Radio Choir and Latvian Radio Bigband will unite for a jazzy evening. The program will include legendary jazz musician Duke Ellingon's sacral concert cycles for bigband and choir.

The event takes place at Spīķeri Concert Hall.
