Mail from Kuldīga: new design stamp issued

On July 26 Latvian Postal Service (Latvijas Pasts) will issue a special stamp and envelope dedicated to Kuldīga.

Last year, Kuldīga's unique Old Town was recognized at the global level by being included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The new stamp with a face value of EUR 1.65, which corresponds to the payment of correspondence in the territory of Latvia in the weight category up to 20 grams, has a print run of 25,000 copies, while the envelope is available in 500 copies. The stamp and the cover were designed by the artist Ludis Danilāns.

Kuldīga, whose history and development are linked to the Duchy of Courland and Semigallia - a dynamic, fast-growing society in the 16th-18th centuries, was historically known as Goldingen. It was an important international centre of trade, crafts, and intercultural exchange.

Kuldīga is the only city in the world that fully reflects the traditional architecture of the Baltic States, fusing Latvian and German traditions. The 13th-18th century urban structure and harmonious urban environment are particularly well preserved.

On September 17, 2023, Kuldīga was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, recognizing and appreciating the unique value of the Old Town of Kuldīga on a global scale.

The new stamp will initially be available at post offices in major cities, as well as in the Latvijas Pasts e-shop.
