Three for the Long Weekend in Latvia

This is a three-day weekend with May 1 being a public holiday – and then, after two working days, Latvia has a four-day holiday for the Independence Restoration Day on May 4 again. Here are a few tips for the first three of the holidays.

Riga World Film Festival

The Riga World Film Festival will celebrate its tenth anniversary from  April 27 to 30 at the Kino Bize cinema in Rīga. The films selected in the program will explore the love that creates mutual relationships and offers a different view of the surrounding world, according to the organizers. More information about the program and other linked events is available at www.kinobize.lv/rpff.

Walpurgis Night at Tērvete

On April 30, the Tērvete Nature Park hosts its annual magic Walpurgis Night celebration for all ages. From 19:00 to 21:00 there will be fun activities with dwarves for the youngest ones, while from 21:00 to 23:00 the trails will have magical installations, musical performances, and witchy rituals. Garden fest in Jūrmala

For those into gardening, the season is ripe to plant, sow, and tidy up the plot for the summer. On April 29, 9:00 to 16:00, at the Bulduri Gardening Vocational School (Viestura Street 6, Jūrmala) a fair will take place with plants, seeds, and seedlings for sale, local production, master classes, advice from professionals, and activities for children.
