Nearly 100 traders offer a wide variety of gifts and snacks. The official opening of the market will take place on Saturday, followed by the lighting of Riga's main festive trees.
Dozens of people visited the market on Friday lunchtime when Latvian Radio was also present.
The organizers of the fair and the events told LR that the fair would be traditional and would not be very different from previous years, except for the decorations.
The interest of traders has been very high this year. Applications for the market started in the summer and by the end of September, all the places were already taken. A total of 90 traders are taking part, but the number of places is slightly higher - around 100. Some home producers offer their products in several places. This year, the venues are about 20% more expensive than last year, the organizers said. For example, craftspeople have to pay €1,500 to trade.
The official opening of the market will take place on Saturday, November 30 , at 4 p.m. An hour later, the main Christmas tree will be lit. Two Christmas trees will be lit up at the same time - in Doma Square and Rātslaukums. Folklore groups, ensembles and choirs will perform in Dome Square every weekend starting on Saturday.
The market will be open without holidays until the evening of January 2.
