'Laboratory of Entangled Space' festival to take place in November

From November 8 to 16, the annual spatial sound festival "Laboratory of Entangled Space" will take place in Old Riga, Kalķu Street 24. This concert format will allow the listener to experience an unprecedented sound experience, listening to eight world premieres, the festival organizers said.

For the third year, the festival will bring together Latvian and foreign composers and scientists to give listeners a new experience of perceiving sound through 36 loudspeakers in a specially created multi-channel sound space for approximately one-hour surround sound concerts. Festival information and program available here.

This year's theme is "Laboratory of Entangled Space", which refers to the physics phenomenon of quantum entanglement. Traditionally, the festival features new works by both Latvian and foreign composers, allowing for international cooperation and exchange of experience.

The program of world premieres of spatial music will include "Hidden Layer" (2024) by Alice Rancane, "Studies on Wigner Function" by Reiko Yamada (Japan), "Echoes in Transition" by Juliette Tudoce (Spain), "Formalized Wigner Fields" (2024) by Felipe González de la Maza (Spain), Voldemārs Johansons "Songs of Disappearance" (2024), Armands Skuķis "Algorithmic Studies" (2024), Eduardo Miranda (UK) "Moment States" (2024) Nicola Privato (Iceland) "Mouija+" (2024), Krists Auznieks (LV) "Dhammanupassana" (2024) and others.

Alongside the main program, the festival will also feature an extensive educational program, workshops, special concerts and performances.

"With this event, we want to introduce the people of Riga to a high-quality spatial music experience. Concerts will take place several times a day, giving the opportunity to experience contemporary electroacoustic music to a large audience," says Voldemārs Johansons, the festival's artistic director.
