A new symphony orchestra festival “Rīga Jūrmala” is being held in Rīga and Jūrmala from July 19 to September 1. Last weekend, July 19 to 21, the festival opened with five concerts, at the center of which was the Bavarian Symphony Orchestra.

The recording of the first concert, where the Bavarian Symphony Orchestra performed with the violinist Julian Rachlin, is available here.

The recording of the concert of July 21, where the orchestra played together with the pianist Rudolf Buchbinder, is available here. The visual recording, however, may be found on Replay.lv. The recording will be available until August 20.

“Often, when one attends and performs at various world-class classical concerts, it is the building, the hall, the acoustics that stays most vividly in one's mind. But we'll remember this festival as one of the “warmest” musical events, where every artist was whole-heartedly welcomed. I was very honored at being given the opportunity to perform with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, replacing maestro Māris Jansons in his “second home” – it's a real honor,” said Susanna Mälkki.
