"Blizzard of Souls" breaks Latvian box-office records

In the five weeks since it release, director Dzintars Dreibergs' movie "Blizzard of Souls" (Dvēseļu putenis) has become the most-watched film since the restoration of Latvian independence, according to movie websites “Uz kino” and “Kinopunkts”, reported LSM's Latvian language site December 16.

The war drama hit Latvian cinema screens on November 8 this year and has now been seen by 207,892 viewers within five weeks. During the same time period, according to the National Film Center, more than 123,000 moviegoers watched another independece-era epic "Guardians of Riga" in 2007.

The figures also make Blizzard of Souls the most successful of the films financed under a special centenary funding arrangment.
