Classical conductor Nelsons gets Grammy Award

Latvian classical conductor Andris Nelsons on Monday received the prestigious Grammy Award in the Best Orchestral Performance category for a recording of Shostakovich's Symphony No. 10, reported LSM's Latvian-language service Tuesday.

The award was released under Deutsche Grammophon and features the Boston Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Andris Nelsons.

Another Latvian, the opera soprano Kristīne Opolais, was a nominee but ultimately not victor in the Best Classical Solo Vocal Album category for the record Nessun Dorma - The Puccini Album, released by Sony Classical. 

The 58th Annual Grammy Awards were handed in Los Angeles in a total of 83 categories.
