Latvian animation founder Ansis Bērziņš passes away

One of the first animation film producers of Latvia, director and producer Ansis Bērziņš (1940-2021) has passed away, relatives confirmed on Facebook.

Ansis Bērziņš began his animation filmmaking in 1969. The best-known animations of his creation are, for example, "Skudriņa Tipa" (1976), "Ness un Nesija" (1991), animated series "Fantadroms" (1984-1995). In 1990, Bērziņš became chair of Latvian first independent animation studio Dauka, co-founded with director Roze Stiebra. 

In 2017, Bērziņš and Stiebra were awarded the Latvian film prize Lielais Kristaps for their lifetime contribution to Latvian cinema.
