Latvian athletes continued to reap medals at the bobsleigh and luge World Cup championships over the weekend.

In Winterberg, Germany Oskars Melbardis – the current World Cup champion in the 2-man and 4-man bobsleigh competitions, took a shared silver medal with Germany’s Johannes Lochner Sunday in the 2-man run together with team-mate brake-man Daumants Dreikšēns. The gold went to Lochner’s compatriot Francesco Friedrich.

Meanwhile in Sochi, where Stage 9 of the even more dangerous luge World Cup championships is taking place, Latvia’s relay team consisting of Inārs Kivlenieks (men’s single), Elza Tīruma (women’s single) and brother Andris and Juris Šics (2-man) won the bronze medal while home team Russia got the silver and Europe’s champions, the relay team from Germany retained their gold status.

Kivlenieks was in fifth-place position in the 1-man runs after almost vying for fourth-place behind medalists from Russia and Germany.
