Let Anete explain Women's Day in Latvia to you!

Take note – story published 4 years ago

March 8 is International Women's Day in Latvia, and who better to tell us what it's all about than a Latvian woman?

More specifically, who better than Anete Germane, whose YouTube channel is a goldmine of information about all things Latvian, from the alphabet to traditional methods fortune telling.

For March 8 Anete has produced a video explaining Inernational Women's Day in a Latvian context and you can watch it above or at her YouTube channel page (and make sure to check out her other videos, too).

She has already picked up 1,500 subscribers, making her a not-insignificant force in explaining the country's culture to the rest of the world, all done with considerable wit and humor.

Anete told LSM: "The idea was originally a way for me to let off some steam during dissertation season at Uni and also because I had a French boyfriend at the time who was struggling with Latvian. I figured there must be many more Latvians all around the world whose friends/loved ones don't understand why we cry when something hits a patriotic note, why we laugh at memes about the cake Cielaviņa and so on.. So my small idea grew into a real project - to share Latvian culture and language online."

We're big fans at LSM, so please keep the videos coming, Anete.
