The exhibition features one painting from Rothko's realist period, two from his surrealist period, one from his transition to classic Rothko-style and two from his classical period.
The celebration also unveiled exhibits of local and international artists, with visitors invited to look at a total of seven arrangements of art on their visit to the spacious Mark Rothko Art Center.
Foreign diplomats, art people and locals alike flocked to the new exhibits Sunday.
