Apinis threw 21.44 meters, setting a new world record. Silver went to Poland's Robert Jachimowicz (17.33 meters) and Croatia's Velimir Sandor took bronze with 16.95 meters.
In the meantime, Latvia's Edgars Bergs won silver in the men's shot put F35, losing just two centimeters to the gold medal winner, Iran's Seyedmohsen Hosseinipanah (14.02 meters).
In total, seven Latvian athletes represent the country at the World Championships in Doha.
