There is sad news of the death of Boriss Teterevs, a major patron of the arts in Latvia.

"It is with great sadness that we inform you that Boris Teterev (05.11.1953 - 21.09.2019), philanthropist and founder of the Boris and Inara Teterev Foundation, on 21 September 2019, has passed away after a prolonged illness.  He was a remarkable person whose life, works, ideas and passion have changed the world, Latvia, society and the worldview of his peers," said a statement from the foundation he started with his wife as a fund to support cultural projects.

“I'm trying to improve this world, including health care, education, and of course, art. Why? I just want to. It is satisfying, as the Russians say, творить добро (to do good). It is also essential that my wife, Inara, and I are on the same wavelength,” Boris Teterev once said in an interview.

Boris Teterev was born in Riga, attended the Riga Secondary School No 10, studied at the Riga Medical Institute (now Riga Stradins University). After graduation he spent nine years practicing medicine at the Riga City Hospital No 4 and the Riga City Hospital No 5.

Until 2008 he engaged in business in Latvia and abroad and in 2010 he established his private family foundation together with his wife Inara.

The foundation website contains information about many of the projects it has supported over the last decade.
