November 3 sees the start of the ever-popular "Porta" world music festival at various venues across Latvia, reported Latvian Radio October 30.

Over two weekends there will be a series of four concerts on offer in Rēzekne, Cēsis, Saldus and Rīga. Among the guests will be the popular Ukrainian group DakhaBrakha which has wowed audiences on previous visits to Latvia, as well as a selection of artists with whom the Latvian audience is not yet familiar.

Latvia's very own Tautumeitas are always a hit with locals, while the group Kalakan will represent the Basque country. Other highlights include Shashani and the Namibian tales from the Netherlands and the United Kingdom's folk music pioneer Sam Lee.

The dispersed nature of the festival also offers a chance to get to know Latvia a bit better, which special transport transfers available to ticket-holders to some of the more far-flung venues.

The full festival program is available at the official website. Music lovers are advised to get tickets as early as possible as the first two concerts are already sell-outs.
