The Latvian Architecture Award 2021 Grand Prix was awarded to the Reconstruction of the Song Festival bandstand at Mežaparks and its authors Austris Mailītis and Juris Poga architects offices during the awards ceremony last week, organizers reported.

The Latvian Architecture Awards 2021 were won by The Barn in Stuki, Reconstruction of an office building on Miera street and Architecture space MAD. The winning projects were chosen by an international jury from 11 finalists.

With regard to the Song Festival bandstand at Mežaparks, jury members Fuensanta Nieto (Spain), Laurynas Avyžius (Lithuania), Ott Alver (Estonia), Steen Enrico Andersen (Denmark), and Andris Kronbergs (Latvia) said: “The relation between the forest and a background with the acoustic canopy of the new building is setting the scene where an essential Latvian tradition takes place. The building volume is curved, resembling a dune while being in good balance with the natural surroundings. Careful, considered functionality provides an optimal experience for the spectators.”

The Latvian Architecture Award 2021 was awarded to three exceptional projects: Stūķu Barn, Reconstruction of an office building on Miera street and Architecture space MAD.

The Latvian Architecture Award (LAA) accentuates outstanding achievements in Latvian architecture and promotes public awareness of architecture. This year, the award took place for the twenty-sixth time.
