Rīga Castle will open its doors to the public on Museum Night

Take note – story published 1 year ago

Riga Castle, the official residence of Latvian presidents, will open its doors to all visitors on 14 May, between 15:00 and midnight, as part of the annual international culture event ‘European Night of Museums’.

The 18th European Museum Night is an event that takes place in more than 3,000 museums, and in nearly 30 European countries. Museums open their doors free of charge in the evening and offer various special activities.

For the first time in the history of the event, visitors choosing to come to Riga Castle will be allowed to admire the gift room where the president’s office keeps official gifts presented by different heads of state.

Visitors will have access to the Coats of Arms Hall, White Hall, Ambassador Accreditation Hall and Festival Hall, and many other areas, such as the Main Foyer, stairs, Green Hall and Blue Foyer, Riga Room, Dorothea’s Room and the office of the first President of Latvia Jānis Čakste. Sets of high state decorations will also be put on display.

The visitor program will also include various musical performances by National Armed Forces and National Guard bands.

Visitors will be required to go through a security check at the entrance to the Castle and are asked not bring any large bags, food, animals or metal objects with them. Given the likely high interest and limited capacity, there may be a wait to gain admittance.
