Juris Simanovičs at DEPO
Something of a local alternative music legend and widely believed to be the scene's supreme lyricist, Juris Simanovičs recently released "How to make peace with your own insignificance", an album with sometimes terrifying but always deeply felt songs whose experimental bent at times departs from his guitar-heavy efforts with Bērnības Milicija. In addition, Juris is a local cool person and runs the Aleponija bar together with his friends.
Listen to it HERE.
He's performing Friday at DEPO in Old Riga at 10 p.m. Entrance is €5.
Experimental sounds at the church
While on Saturday at 8 p.m. Mona De Bo will play at the Anglican Church in an event opening their vinyl “kur ir šeit?”. Their - also guitar-heavy - music is adored by pretty much everyone who's interested in modern music from hereabouts.
Here's the event on Facebook. Tickets are €7.
Feminist exhibition «I touch myself» on show at National Art Museum
What do dresses, beads, bras and high-heeled shoes mean? How do these things frame the female body? Do they limit it or set it free? What does being young mean? And growing old? What's it like being a daughter, mother, wife, lover, a grandmother?
The exhibition "I touch myself", featuring works by Rasa Jansone, Anda Magone (née Bankovska), Inga Meldere, Ingrīda Pičukāne, and Eva Vēvere tries to answer these questions and many more.
