Three for the Weekend in Latvia: Rīga's Art Nouveau, Bauska's best and Jūrmala's strings

Take note – story published 4 years ago

Here are a few more suggestions for things to do this weekend in Latvia.

An Art Nouveau Christmas

The Rīga Art Nouveau Center on beautiful Alberta street has a special Christmas exhibition running until January 12, showcasing various beautiful objects in the Art Nouveau or Jugendstil style, many of them from a golden age of Latvian art and design. There is also another exhibition called "Doll Stories" from artist Irina Vorkale.

More details at the Rīga Art Nouveau Center website.

Christmas in Bauska

A short drive from Rīga and with plenty of impressive palaces nearby, why not take a trip south to Bauska (or north, if you're coming from Lithuania)? A musical festival mood will be created in this likeable town December 14 by vocal group Pigoriņi.

During the day you will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities in the town square: writing a letter to Santa, fishing for gingerbread, building a snowman, and playing in a dwarf ice maze, with the lighting of the Christmas tree the highlight in the evening. There is also a winter route you can follow through the streets, with details in Latvian, Russian and English.
