Three for the Weekend: Modern music, contemporary and ancient art

Take note – story published 7 years and 11 months ago

For this weekend's events in Latvia we've picked a selection of contemporary and ancient art in Rīga, plus a very interesting arts festival in a somewhat secluded place in Latvia.

Modern art in central Rīga

The former sweets factory at Sporta st. 2 on Thursday hosts a modern art exhibition, the second one in the new premises of the kim? Contemporary Art Centre.

The exhibition features works of four Latvian artists - Ojārs Pētersons, Evita Vasiļjeva, Jānis Dzirnieks, and Krišs Salmanis.

The below LTV story (Latvian) shows you around, should you be interested in the new show. The center is open every day except Monday from 12 afternoon to 6 p.m. and 12 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays.

Art festival at Durbe

Durbe near the Liepāja port city in Latvia's west will host the 6th Zemlika festival of music, art and local cuisine ‘Zemlika’ over October 28 and 29.

Featuring film screenings, music, theater and art, the festival will host various experimental music acts like A Dead Forest Index, Blanck Mass (the solo project of Benjamin John Power of Fuck Buttons fame) and many other local and international acts at Latvia's smallest municipality.

Silk Road antiques and antics in Rīga

In line with Rīga being overrun by "China" posters, the Riga Bourse is holding an exhibition of ceramics, bronze, jade, gold, lacquer and textile art starting from the Western Zhou Dynasty (1046–771 BC) until Ming Dynasty (1368–1644 AD) related to the ancient Silk Road.

It is just one of the many upcoming exhibitions and workshops dedicated to Chinese art.
