Three for the Weekend: Music & literature

Take note – story published 6 years ago

This weekend is all about music and literature.

Intsikurmu festival

The one-day Instikurmu festival brings together seven cutting-edge bands from Latvia and Estonia. It's cheap, and it's hip, and it takes place at a wonderful manor--the K.K. fon Stricka villa in central Riga.

It takes place Satuday and starts at 6 p.m.

Meet Latvia's Beats

The wonderful Pils bar on the left bank of Daugava, in Riga, is on Saturday at 9 p.m. concluding its series of evenings dedicated to the Beat poets. While, of course, knowing the language is good when poetry's involved, there'll be music, drinks and a generally "upbeat" atmosphere characteristic of these evenings.

Soviet Milk

But for those of you who have a better command of English than Latvian, Nora Ikstena's book, Soviet Milk, will see its English-language opening at the splendid Robert's Books in central Riga. While not a weekend event--it takes place March 7 at 7 p.m.--it still merits a mention as Ikstena is one of the 'focus authors' at the London Book Fair this year.
