Three for the Weekend: Schubert and art

Classical music and an art fair are among this weekend's goodies LSM recommends seeing and/or hearing.

Saturday: Haydn, Mozart, Schubert in Rīga

The Sinfonietta Rīga, lead by violinist Florian Donderer, will on Saturday perform pieces by Haydn, Mozart, and Schubert at the Lielā ģilde hall at 7 p.m.

"The Bremen German Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by the distinguished Estonian conductor Paavo Järvi, is often called the most outstanding chamber orchestra in the world.  It has visited Rīga several times, but now the rich experience of this brilliant ensemble will be presented by the holder of its first chair in the violin section, Florian Donderer," says the release promising European fun for classical music lovers.

Jarmarka - students' art for accessible prices

On December 15 the annual students' art market Jarmarka (from the Russian for 'fair') opened featuring about 10,000 artworks. The students set the prices themselves and part of the proceeds will go to the Latvian Academy of Art.
