Three for the Weekend: Solstice celebrations

Take note – story published 6 years ago

A whopping four holidays are ahead of us as we gear up for the winter solstice--what to do, what to do?

Christmas markets in Old Riga

The Christmas market in Old Riga a great stop for last-minute gifts if you're in Riga for a quick holiday, like many other travelers. During the four holidays, an impressive music program (and some mulled wine, of course) will serve to keep your spirits up.

Art exhibitions

To take a break from the Christmas fun engulfing Old Riga, there are a couple of museums that will still be open on Friday and Saturday.

The Riga Bourse Art Museum is holding the Finnish exhibition Seven-league Boots. Stop – Finland. It is the second exhibition introducing contemporary art collections from the Baltic Sea region’s museums.

It's open on Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. but closed on December 24-25.

Meanwhile the Arsenāls Fine Arts Museum is hosting a wonderful and delightful contemporary art exhibition featuring Latvian 21st century art. It's a nice crowning touch for your day, open on Saturday from 12 afternoon to 5 p.m.
