Skaņaiskalns nature trail
Up north near the Estonian border, in the town of Mazsalaca (which in itself is a beauty on the banks of the river Salaca), lies the Skaņaiskalns nature trail. Skaņaiskalns (literally – the Sonorous Mountain) is a sandstone wall, the angle and structure of which gives a very clear echo. The nature trail is about three kilometers long, easily accessible, and leads along objects to which mythical powers are linked, such as the Devil's Stone, Angel Cave, Soul Barrel, Werewolf Pine, and others.
Information about Skaņaiskalns nature trail is available on skanaiskalns.eu. Location of Skaņaiskalns on the map here.
Ieriķi Watermill Park
The Ieriķi Watermill park is located between Sigulda and Cēsis and weaves along the Melderupe river, along several waterfalls and to the walls of an old mill, hence the name. During the winter, the park is lit up with different installations. On Saturday, December 17, it will be lit between 16:00 and 21:00. The trail is dog-friendly and parking is right next to both the main highway and the park itself.
X-mas Designer Gift Market
In case it is all too cold for you and you'd rather hide indoors, you can go for a walk inside the Rīga Latvian Society House (Merķeļa Street 13, Rīga) which hosts an "X-mas Edition gift fair" which will offer Baltic designer and artists' creations. The fair will be open Saturday and Sunday 10:00 to 16:00. Maybe include it on your route as you check out a range of the Latvian capital's seasonal events and sights.
