Ukrainian creatives can apply for artistic stipends in Latvia

The State Culture Capital Fund (VKKF) has announced a new creative scholarship program, the aim of which is to support Ukrainian refugees who work in the cultural sector, promoting further creative activity and cooperation with Latvian cultural organizations.

As explained on the VKKF website, scholarships are planned in the following fields of culture and art: Design and Architecture, Film Art, Cultural Heritage, Literature, Music and Dance Arts (Ballet), Interdisciplinary Projects, Theater Arts (Theater, Contemporary Dance and Circus), Traditional Culture and the visual arts.

The funds of the target program will be distributed through an open competition, awarding a one-time creative work scholarship to a creative person for a period of 3 months at 600 euros per month.

Citizens of Ukraine who have taken refuge in Latvia as war refugees and who have been issued a long-term visa with the right to employment, and who in the last three years have produced qualifying cultural work, will be eligible to apply.

The aim of the State Culture Capital Foundation is to promote a balanced development of creativity in all the branches of art and preservation of the cultural heritage in the country in conjunction with the guidelines of the state cultural policy.

It announces and administers culture projects’ competitions, allots grants and gives financial support to short term educational, creative or scientific travels abroad.
