The faucets have been turned on at free drinking water points dotted around the Latvian capital, the city council has confirmed.

These faucets are supplied with water from the city water supply, which is clean, of high quality, safe for use and regularly tested.

Normunds Zvaunis, member of the board of SIA Rīgas ūdens (Riga water) said: "According to what was entrusted to us by the Riga City Council, we will take care of the management of the existing free taps and every year we will expand the availability of high-quality drinking water in the public environment in the capital, so that residents of Riga and guests of the city form the habit of safely using Riga's tap water, which is clean, safe and also tasty and healthy because it contains many valuable minerals. This year, it is planned to expand the availability of drinking water by building ten more free taps in various neighborhoods of Riga."

During the 27th General Latvian Song and 17th Dance Festival extra free water taps and eight mobile water filling stations will be available to both festival participants and others, which will be located at Mežaparks stage, Daugava Stadium, Esplanade and Vērmanes garden.

Free faucets are located in Vērmanes garden near the children's playground, Esplanade behind the building of the Latvian Art Museum, Ziedondārzs, Dzegužkalns park, Mežaparks at the entrance to the zoo and in the Centra sports quarter on Krišjāņa Barona street, as well as in the forecourt of the Āgenskalns market. The free taps are designed at such a height that users can comfortably drink or fill a water bottle, and are also accessible to people in wheelchairs. Their construction also allows pets to drink.

Other free faucets are available in other suburbs, all of which can be seen on the map below.
