Provocations in the demolition process of the monument in Uzvaras Park are possible, but the internal services will not tolerate them, the Minister for Internal Affairs Kristaps Eklons said on the Latvian Televisio August 5.

He said that security and order services were preparing for a variety of scenarios that could form part of the demolition process of the monument.

“We are preparing, of course, there will be dissatisfaction, [people] who try to influence this process in some way or to stop it,” the Minister said.

Eklons stated that the potential provocateurs would “face very intolerant attitude” because the total threat to the country due to the current geopolitical situation was too high to allow any fluctuations.

As stated by the Rīga City Council representatives on August 4, the dismantling of the monument would begin in the next few weeks.
