A totalitarian regime-glorifying object has disappeared in Alsviķi parish of Alūksne municipality, the local government's public relations specialist Evita Aploka told LETA on August 26.

The local government has found that an object on the list to be dismantled has disappeared – a monument in Alsviķi parish, where on January 15, 1944, the fourth unit of the Red Army's first Latvian guerilla brigade defeated the German army's punishment expedition. Only the base of the monument is left. The local government informed the police of the fact, said Aploka.

Cabinet regulations' “List of Soviet and Nazi-glorifying objects to be dismantled in the territory of the Republic of Latvia” lists nine monuments to be dismantled in Alūksne municipality, but local government specialists have identified five additional monuments. One of the monuments to be dismantled will be transferred by the local government to the Latvian Occupation Museum.

The local government has already conducted a price tender, and the dismantling will take place soon.
