Video: Liepāja Soviet monument dismantled

Take note – story published 1 year ago

In Liepāja on Tuesday, October 25, the dismantling of the “Liepaja defenders” monument was launched, reports Rus.LSM.lv. This facility in Liepaja is one of three that has been recognized as glorifying the Soviet regime and is therefore to be demolished by November 15 of this year.

On Tuesday morning, the monument was cordoned off and monitored by police officers. One lane of road traffic is closed at the site and heavy machinery, including a crane, is installed.

This is the last of the monuments glorifying the Soviet regime remaining in the city. It is located outside the ice rink where people always gathered on May 9 and called “The grenade thrower”. The monument was unveiled in 1960.
