'Smaller languages' poetry to be showcased at Latvian National Library

The Embassy of Ireland and the Latvian Writers Union, in partnership with the National Library of Latvia and Literature Ireland, will be holding a poetry reading and discussion on September 7 at the National Library in Rīga.

Titled “Words Creating Images: The Art of Poetry in Smaller Languages” , it starts at 18.00, in the Klīversala Hall on the first floor of the building.

Irish poets Áine Uí Fhoghlú and Seosamh Ó Murchú, Latgalian poetry expert Anna Rancāne and Livonian language expert Valts Ernštreits will discuss the opportunities and challenges of writing poetry in smaller languages. The discussion will be followed by poetry readings in Irish and English with Latvian translations.

Discussion will be in English. The Irish poets will also do pop-up readings of their poetry on 7 September, at 11.00 and 14.00 in the Library's Atrium 1st floor.
