New stamp honors poet Poruks

A new postage stamp and envelope will be issued in honor of the 150th anniversary of the poet Jānis Poruks, Latvijas Pasts (Latvian Post) has announced.

On October 13, 2021, Latvijas Pasts will issue a new stamp and envelope in honor of Jānis Poruks, a major figure in Latvian literature at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.

The new postage stamp has been issued in a circulation of 50,000 copies, and its nominal value is € 1.00, which corresponds to the payment for letter correspondence in the weight category up to 20 grams in the territory of Latvia. Along with the postage stamp, a special envelope with a circulation of 1,000 copies was also issued.

Jānis Poruks (1871–1911) is a major figure in Latvian literature and his work helped form a distinctively Latvian form of romanticism; it has the features of neo-romanticism and symbolism, while works address the issues of physical and spiritual existence that were important for society and the individual at the turn of the century.

The new postage stamp and envelope will initially be available at the Riga 10th post office at 41/43 Elizabetes Street and at the post office Sakta Brīvības boulevard 32, Riga, at the post offices of the largest cities, as well as at the Latvijas Pasts e-shop https://veikals.pasts.lv/.
