Two Latvian English-language book launches this week

Take note – story published 6 years ago

Our friends at Latvian Literature have informed us of two book launch events taking place this week that are likely to be of particular interest to the English-reading audience.

March 7 sees the launch of Nora Ikstena's "Soviet Milk" at Riga's famous English-language bookstore Robert's Books.

"Soviet Milk" (Latvian title Mātes piens or Mother's Milk), has been translated to English and published by novella specialists Peirene Press. The book follows the fates of three women of different generations in the Soviet-ruled Baltics during the 70s and 80s and will be on sale for the first time in English at the event, which takes place on the 7th of March at 7pm (Free entrance).

Two days later at the Kaņepes Kulturas Centrs it is the turn of Inga Gaile's 30 Questions People Don't Ask, a poetry collection by Latvian writer Inga Gaile and translated into English by Ieva Lešinska

Inga Gaile and Ieva Lešinska will read poems from the book at the event and challenge the audience to participate in a special questions game. "There will also be some good wine," the organizers promise, somewhat recklessly.
