Agnese Kubliņa, Head of the Entertainment and Documentary Content Editorial Department of Latvian Television (LTV) said: "Although the number of applications has not increased, the competition promises to be splendid and fierce. There is a wide spectrum of talent among the participants, representing various music genres - from already known names to brand new talents."
Supernova will be televised live in February 2025, but not all the 96 songs wll make the cut. As usual, an opaque jury will be responsible or choosing those that make it to the latter stages. Every year LTV cites unspecified "security reasons" as the reason it won't say who is actually on the jury until after the Eurovision Song Contest has finished – by which time it is something of a fait accompli.
Latvia's recent record in Eurovision is not particularly good. In May of this year, the musician Dons represented Latvia in Eurovision with the song "Hollow", finishing in 16th place. He did at least reach the final – the first Latvian act to do so since 2016.
