Daugavpils to jazz up August with concerts

Take note – story published 3 years ago

For the eighth year in a row, Daugavpils is dedicating August to music, filling the city with tunes of all sorts of styles and genres, Latvian Radio reported August 4.

Every Thursday, just like the past 8 years, the concert cycle "Musical August" will feature performances from local musicians.

“Without the musical August, we can't imagine the city. Daugavpils loves jazz, the accordion … Every year is carefully planned to please visitors,” said Sandra Maskaļova, deputy head of Daugavpils Latvian Culture Center.

This year, the musical August will begin with French music in a Lithuanian performance, and love will wind through the music all August long.

"It's romance in music, jazz, guitar, tango. All about love. The most beautiful French songs and tunes will be played this Thursday by the musicians of the professional wind instrument orchestra Daugava and by the soloist Vygantas (Vilnius)," said Inese Mežale - Ivanāne, representative of the Daugavpils Latvian Culture Center.

This year the musical August will be twice as effective, as concerts will also take place on Saturdays, not only Thursdays as usual.

“On Thursdays in Pumpura Square, on Saturdays in Dubrovina Park. The time of COVID has allowed local musicians to express themselves, says the head of Daugavpils Secondary School of Music, musician Aivars Broks.

Musical August, with its summer charm, will fill the city of Daugavpils on Thursdays and Saturdays, preserving and spicing up the traditions of its eight-year existence.
