New festival to 'revive the wilted cultural life' in Rīga this July

On 30 and 31 July, a new festival will take place in Riga, the cultural space “Hanzas perons” and their summer terrace - Var!Būt! (May!Be!), the organizers said July 5.

More than 20 musicians and bands will participate in the festival, including the Estonian indie rock band “Ewert and The Two Dragons”, the German minimalist pianist Niklas Paschburg, the Latvian band “Carnival Youth”, the jazz band “Very Cool People”, the hip-hop artist Ozols.

The festival will feature three stages, on which both musicians and DJs will perform. As the festival's organizers explained, the idea of the festival is to “revive the wilted contemporary cultural life of Riga and offer high-quality pop music, indie, hip-hop, electronic and other genre music fans a real summer festival sensation this year.”

The festival's full program, which will include concerts by local and foreign artists, will be announced soon.

“Although there are a number of foreign artists performing at our festival, it is more a rarity than normal at the moment, so “Var!Būt!” is an opportunity to highlight exactly the diversity of Latvian musicians and, in fact, the very high professional level, giving many the opportunity to show themselves to the wider audience and to continue their growth,” said Ieva Irbina, director of the festival organizer, Hanzas perons.

Only those who have received Covid-19 certificates will be able to attend the festival. See the festival's official website here.
