The music festival Positivus will take place in Rīga next year instead of the usual Salacgrīva, organizers said November 16.

Due to the pandemic, the Positivus festival was cancelled in 2020 and 2021. Next year, the organizers plan it to take place in Lucavsala, July 15-16, 2022.

The festival organizer, Ģirts Majors, said: "We have been thinking about organizing the festival in Rīga for many years, but Salacgrīva is a special place and the habit has great strength and therefore it did not happen before. Every year, the fight for artists that we want to see at the festival is increasing and visitors also have more and more choice in terms of attending concerts, so we need to think about how the festival could develop and continue to grow. In our view, the festival in the largest city of Latvia and the Baltic will provide great opportunities for our festival."

The organizers are currently having talks with musicians who had agreed to play in the cancelled events, as well as other artists. The first lineups are expected this autumn and winter.

The annual Positivus is the biggest popular music festival in the Baltic and has been taking place since 2007, gathering crowds of 30,000 locals and foreigners.
