As previously reported by LSM, Shakima Trio is composed of Ukrainian folklorist, ethno-singer and violinist Shakima Garunts, and multi-instrumentalists Jānis Rungis and Ainārs Majors.
"The unexpected birth of this album can only be explained as a sign of the times, as we suddenly got so much energy and information at such volume and speed that we haven't really caught up to it yet," says Ainārs Majors.
"We only managed to understand that we have become transmitters and transmit together in the language of music. I would call it something similar to simultaneous interpreters working in threes.”
The content of "Vysoko" is based on Ukrainian ethnic music material dressed up in diverse shades of rhythms and sounds.
The new trio was born this spring, when Shakima Garunts started the refugee movement and the association "AMFO music" together with producer Ainars Majors. "Everyone needs to be aware that they are needed by those around them and can be that way by doing what they know and love best,” says Shakima Garunts.
"Shakima Trio" has already given several emotionally charged concerts in Latvia, as well as a performance in Chisinau, the capital of Moldova. The next concert of "Shakima Trio" will take place on November 25 at the Kuldīga Youth House.
