The court also granted the request to reinstate the Riga City Council's decision of March 27 2024. This means that the municipality will give the association the use of the territory in Grīziņkalns for five years for the implementation of its planned projects.
"This court decision means that Ghetto Games will be able to operate in Grīziņkalns for the next five years, as stipulated in the contract signed with the municipality at the beginning of the year.
"In its reasoning, the court emphasized the need to prioritize the interests of children and young people involved in the Ghetto Games movement. This is a positive decision for society as a whole, as this organization makes a significant contribution to children's active and healthy lifestyles, also through non-formal education activities, promoting and encouraging volunteering," said Edvards Ratnieks, Deputy Mayor and Acting Mayor of Riga.
In its reasoning, the Court pointed out that the residents' association of the Grīziņkalns neighborhood cannot be considered to represent the whole or a significant part of the residents of the neighborhood or of the residents of the property in the vicinity, as it has a small number of members. Grīziņkalns association protested against the organization of the games in the vicinity.
Previously, the Riga City Council and the associations agreed on a schedule of events until the end of the summer, with the condition that the Ghetto Games can use sound equipment until 22:00, and only microphones until 23:00 and after that.
