Gunta competed in the third heat and finished second, covering the distance in 50.93 seconds, the second-best time of her career. Unfortunately, it was not enough to qualify for the semi-finals.
On Monday, Vaičule competed in the preliminaries, where she finished fifth in a field of six athletes with a time of 51.13 seconds. This time gave her the 22nd best result in a field of 47 athletes but was not good enough to qualify immediately for the semi-finals.
The winner of each repechage and the two fastest times qualified for the semi-finals. Vaičule was 0.18 seconds away from the semi-finals.
