Friday's competition started with an obstacle course, with athletes competing on horses drawn by lot. Pāvels managed to earn the maximum 300 points in this discipline. On Thursday, the points he scored in fencing allowed him to take the lead.
The next competition was the fencing bonus round, which was not successful for the Latvian pentathlete. Still, he was leading his group with 540 points.
The next event was the 200-meter freestyle swimming, where finished third with a time of 2 minutes and 2.17 seconds. He earned 306 points for the swim. He retained the overall lead with 846 points.
The last discipline was a laser run. Pāvels was the first overall leader, but he lost positions rapidly during the race. He finished fourth. 660 points were accumulated in this discipline.
This gave a total of 1506 points, which placed Pāvels in sixth position and allowed him to qualify confidently for the final.
The modern pentathlon final is scheduled for Saturday. Pāvels Švecovs is the final Latvian Olympian still competing in the Paris games.
