Nevertheless, the Latvians made their mark on this rally with unprecedented success in Latvian motorsport - winning on two WRC stages. Finnish driver Kalle Rovanperä (Toyota Gazoo Racing) won the rally.
The Latvians drove a Ford Puma prepared by M-Sport Ford in the fastest and most prestigious Rally1 class. This was only the crew's second race at the highest level and their first with a hybrid engine, allowing them to develop maximum power.
In the Latvian WRC, the drivers completed 20 special stages covering just over 300 kilometers. The fastest time in two of them was set by the Latvians Sesks/Francis.
After an opening ceremony in the Old Town of Riga, on Thursday the drivers headed to the first stage at the Bikernieki track. Rovanpera was the fastest.
On Friday, the rally entered Kurzeme, where the longest stage of the rally awaited the drivers with seven special stages over a distance of just under 121 kilometers. The stages took place in Tukums and Talsi regions. On Friday morning Sesks scored wins in two stages, and Sesks/Francis finished the day in 2nd place.
On Saturday, the Latvian WRC event moved to the Kuldīga and South Kurzeme regions, where Sesks drove more cautiously, losing one position in the overall rally standings. Saturday finished in Liepāja.
The rally finished on Sunday with the last 64 kilometers of four special stages in the South Kurzeme region.
