Latvia were first to take the lead via Dans Ločmelis in the first period, only for Timothy Liljergen to level things up in the second.
Roared on by a passionate sell-out crowd, the third period belonged definitively to Latvia with goals from Miks Indrašis and then Jānis Jaks making the final score 3:1 to Latvia, with the puck crawling agonisingly over the line with the Swedes powerless to prevent it.
The USA, Germany and Canada all booked their semi-final berths with victories, too. The next challenge for Latvia will be posed by Canada in Tampere on Saturday with the prize a place in the final of the tournament.
