Daugaviņš said in a message posted by the club that it was a sad day, but he had decided to retire from hockey. He promised to return to Mihalovce, but not as a hockey player. Daugaviņš thanked the fans of Mihalovce for the support he felt during his two seasons with the team.
"I have decided to retire from hockey completely. It's hard to add anything else," said Daugaviņš.
At the end of the summer, Daugaviņš captained the Latvian national team that won the qualification for the 2026 Winter Olympics.
