The best Latvian and Baltic rider has managed to break into the world's elite in recent years and has repeatedly finished in the top 10 at World Cup events. A month before the Olympic start, Mārtiņš was a bit unsure about his readiness, as he broke his finger in the end of June. However, shortly before leaving for Paris, Mārtiņš gained confidence at the Latvian Championships - he is ready.
Only 36 athletes from 28 countries will compete in the Cross-country Olympic discipline. Blūms earned his ticket to Paris last year at the World Championships in Glasgow, where he finished 11th. Now it's the turn of Paris' challenging course.
The historic Olympic start of Mārtiņš Blūms will be at 15:10 Latvian time.
NOTE: Mārtiņš Blūms finished a highly creditable 17th place overall, despite suffering a fall.
